VISION OF A TEACHER ASSIGNMENT INSTRUCTIONS
OVERVIEW
In Chapter 1 of the Koch textbook, Introduction to Education (5th ed.), you reviewed videos
about why others chose to teach and reflected on teachers you have had in the past. For this
activity, you will draw yourself and reflect on your vision of a teacher. Chapter 1 gave three
examples of how teacher candidates responded to the challenge to draw themselves. In each
vision, you learned something about how that candidate saw the classroom. Did they see
themselves with students in rows or a more fluid environment? Did they see themselves at the
front of the classroom or sitting alongside students at a table? As you think about each of the
pictures, think about your vision for your classroom.
INSTRUCTIONS
1. In a Word document or PDF, digitally draw a picture of yourself teaching a lesson. You do not
have to be an artist. You can create your vision using clipart, graphics, and other technological
tools. Just imagine yourself in a classroom. Be sure to include the students! This is a way to
explore your mental images of teaching.
• Your vision must be digitally drawn or created using technology (e.g., clipart, graphics,
Bitmoji, and other tools). The use of technology to create the vision is key. You may not
draw a picture on paper and upload it.
• Your picture should display creativity and color.
• You and your students should be clearly distinguishable in the vision.
2. When you finish your drawing, include two reflective paragraphs on the second page of the
Word document or PDF. For the reflection, describe the following:
• How is your classroom arranged?
• Are desks in rows? Or are tables grouped around the room?
• What are you doing? What are your students doing?
• Are you standing in front? In the middle? To the side?
• Are students raising their hands?
• Judging from your drawing, what mental models do you have of yourself as a
teacher?
• Is your vision the same as the experiences you had as a student?
• Each paragraph must be at least five sentences.
Note: Your assignment will be checked for originality via the Turnitin plagiarism tool.
