***THE CLASSMATES DISCUSSION POST: ***
Hello Professor and Class,
Developing my personal leadership plan was an enriching process that will enhance my ability to lead and inspire others effectively. Initially, I focused on transformational leadership, which emphasizes inspiring and motivating team members to achieve higher levels of performance (Henricks et al., 2020). This involved articulating a clear and compelling vision for the future, aligned with team values and goals, and fostering an environment that encourages innovative thinking and calculated risk-taking. By demonstrating genuine concern for each team member’s professional development and providing personalized coaching, I can build stronger, more motivated teams.
In parallel, I will also work on developing my charismatic leadership skills. This will include improving my public speaking to deliver messages with passion and conviction, to build genuine relationships with team members through empathy and active listening (Meslec et al., 2020). I found that projecting confidence and maintaining a positive presence can significantly enhance my influence and the overall team morale.
Additionally, I studied and applied the five types of power—legitimate, reward, coercive, expert, and referent. Establishing clear authority and using appropriate rewards to motivate team members can be particularly effective. While using coercive power sparingly, I can ensure any necessary enforcement of rules will be fair and consistent.
Recognizing the importance of emotional intelligence (EI), I will work on improving my self-awareness, self-regulation, empathy, and social skills. This focus on EI will help navigate interpersonal dynamics more effectively and foster a positive work culture (Goleman, 2021). Finally, embracing change leadership, I will develop strategies to communicate the need for change, engage team members, and manage resistance. This comprehensive approach will enable me to lead my team through transitions smoothly and drive organizational improvements.
