Final Assignment/Term Paper- LABR 2P90
Students will complete the term by analyzing a question of their choosing relating to the topic of labour relations in professional sports, so long as the topic was covered in our class. Your paper is to be approximately 10 pages in length. Your answer will require a clear argument and should be supported not only be analytical reflections, but also through external and independent research.
You are required to use a sufficient number of sources in order to develop a clear and effective argument. While the exact number is up to you, anything less than 5 quality sources is a cause for concern. Three of those sources MUST be course readings. You are required to use direct quotes from those 3 readings.
You can select whichever referencing style works best for you, so long as you apply it both consistently and correctly.
Other Important Points:
The paper should be approximately 8 pages in length. You can go slightly over of fall slightly under by no more than 1 page either way
It will be helpful to provide a brief history/summary of the topic
Your answer will require a clear argument and should be supported not only be analytical reflections, but also through external and independent research
The paper should be supported by various examples or cases for you to draw on, rather than simply theoretical arguments

The topic is up to you to determine (so long as it aligns with a topic covered in the course), but if you are looking for a few examples, consider these:
Should junior hockey players (ie. OHL, QMJHL, WHL) be considered employees? Why or why not?
Should US college athletes be considered employees? Why or why not? Is there a difference between revenue generating sports (men’s football, men’s basketball) and non-revenue generating sports (women’s softball)?
Labour stoppages in professional sports are often seen as a fight between millionaires and billionaires. Is this accurate? Why or why not?
Athletes with certain political opinions are often told to “stick to sports.” Does this privilege certain athletes and marginalize others? Are certain political opinions more welcomed in sports?
WNBA players took the lead in mobilizing the sports world for racial equality and an end to police violence in the aftermath of the murder of George Floyd. What were the impacts of this? Why were WNBA players more vocal than other athletes (in most cases) and vocal much earlier than many other athletes? What is the impact of their activism?
