It is highly recommended that you and your future staff take a climate survey at least annually. This will help you determine the areas that need refining, and what areas should be reinforced. If you are at campus or ISD that uses climate surveys, then you are lucky. If you don’t, then this is a good chance for you to find or create one. The reason for climate surveys is to learn not only about how others think and feel about their campus or ISD, but also how they think and feel about other people on the campus.
Find a sample school climate survey or at a survey that your campus/ISD uses. Or, if you have not seen a climate survey being used, think about how you would implement one and why. Then, answer the following:
Based upon your reading and classroom discussions, write an action plan regarding how you will improve climate and culture on your campus and build teacher capacity to positively influence student learning.
Assume you are a first year assistant principal at this campus and you have been asked to give input on the current campus culture and climate. How will you cultivate your answer and how will you present it?
What will you do to establish and build culture and climate with these teachers and support staff?
You may present your answer in writing, video, or a form of slide presentation.
You will be graded on:
1-40 pts—The prompt is thoroughly answered and each bullet is addressed more than proficiently.
1-30 pts–Scholarly writing is clear, concise, and understandable.
1-30 pts–Answers are thoughtful, realistic, and implementable.
