Students should type a minimum 2 page paper in response to the following challenge. Papers should be double spaced, and checked carefully for spelling, punctuation and grammar errors. Papers are due Saturday May 11th at 12:00 PM.  Late papers will not be accepted.
In order for this assignment to be considered “complete,” you are required to submit a publish of your paper, with revisions from a reader other than yourself, with the final paper. You can use the virtual student services for this part of the assignment. (see link in Syllabus for student services) 
Challenge: You are an early childhood teacher at a local public school. Your principal has announced that they are cutting funding for the art, music, dance and drama programs next year in order to devote more time and money in the school day to increasing standardized test scores.
Your assignment: Write a paper defending these art programs at your school. Explain how these arts programs benefit children’s academic and social/emotional development.
Students will use notes from our class discussions, readings from the Brightspace shell to prepare for this paper. You should include at least 2 articles from the internet as well. You must cite your sources. Grading will be based on the following criteria:
Paper meets minimum requirements (2 pages, proofreading)            2 points
Paper is organized and clear                                                               4 points
Paper reflects understanding of specific age group                            2 points
All points made are supported and developed                                   5 points          
Paper reflects student’s understanding of course content                  3 points
Defense of art programs includes a range of academic and social/emotional outcomes from creative art activities in schools                             4 points
