Term Paper Instructions:
Because your major term paper will be worth 55% of your final grade for this course and because term paper writing is so integrally important when you go on in your college and graduate school career I want you to write a serious, scholarly term paper this semester.
Your term paper should be on a topic having to do with counseling issues of your choosing. Remember that this course is entitled “Helping Process” but that one of the most important topics covered in the course is ethical issues confronting counselors — so try to research and write about an ethical dilemma or a treatment/counseling decision that you might face in practice someday. I want you to research something that you will be interested enough in to do the research and then write a four to six page double-spaced term paper about.
Remember that your topic should be sufficiently focused so that you can “cover” it in a relatively short paper. Please also entitle your paper with a research question, rather than a statement. This indicates that you are delving into the literature with an open mind to truly find “answers” to the question you are asking.
Please remember to use at least two scholarly sources — journal articles, books with bibliographies or reading lists at the end, and .gov, .org, or .edu ” no .coms please as they are not considered scholarly.
