This competency assessment assesses the following Outcome(s):
IT278M1-1: Examine the features, roles, and installation methods of a network operating system.
GEL-1.02: Demonstrate college-level communication through the composition of original materials in Standard English.
Purpose
Part 1: The purpose of Part 1 is to prepare you for changing Windows 2012 to 2016, or the current version of Windows Server operating system. Each has its own process using Server Core™ or graphical UI to install based on hardware requirements. Windows administrators need to know what these hardware requirements are to properly plan for the deployment of Windows 2016 Server. The second section of Part 1 is to help you understand how Windows Server compares to its Linux® equivalents, such as Red Hat®, Fedora™, or Ubuntu®.
Part 2: Before you can begin working with Windows networks, a good understanding of network components and concepts is necessary. It is important to understand the characteristics of and differences between the types of networks and components such as switches and routers. An understanding of IPv4 and IPv6 is also important. Windows administrators should know the hardware requirements for all versions of a current version of Windows Server.
Read the assessment and respond to the checklist items based on the reading and learning activities.
