When Florence Nightingale started to institutionalize nursing as a profession, she selected
the following: data and observation, health improvement, research, education and training, and
advocacy and reform. She ensured that she gathered facts and facts that were relevant to her
focus areas, such as sanitation issues. Nightingale focused on aspects that had an immediate
bearing on patients’ health, such as cleanliness, fresh air, and diet. She focused on the need to
research and adopt research-based practices in health care. Realizing the necessity for well-
defined courses in nursing, she maintained the quality of care provided by the nurses.
Nightingale also ensured the champion of policy reforms to support the nursing profession and
improvement of patients’ care (Cindy, 2024).
